the learning process

During the learning process the body becomes more comfortable to inhabit: pains are eased, posture improves and movement becomes freer. When the body releases tensions, movements in activity become easier. These movements could be as simple as ascending stairs and getting up out of a chair or more complex as in playing an instrument. As habitual muscle tensions release, the mind becomes quieter and less stressed allowing for the possibility of more reasoned thinking..

Caring hands

DEEP RELAXATION 'Table work' is a regularly used part of a session. Whilst the pupil lies fully clothed on the practice table, Deborah uses light and subtle hand contact to bring about a level of relaxation very difficult to achieve one's self . However, if a pupil has severe back pain, this relaxation work will be done whilst seated.

private lessons

For all lessons comfortable clothing is worn. The first lesson starts with an introductory conversation and observations followed by 'table work'. During lessons the pupil is encouraged through the use of the teacher's hands, to explore new ways moving that will often feel strange. The simple act of standing in 'true' alignment with guidance from the teacher, can feel oddly out of balance and the delightful experience of getting effortlessly out of a chair with no more than suggested guidance from the teacher's hands is of great encouragement in the learning process.
